Remember The Reason It's Called "Memorial Day"

There is fresh-turned ground in military and civilian cemeteries across America this Memorial Day. In the year since we last honored those who gave their lives for freedom in all our nation's wars, we have entered into a new conflict to liberate an oppressed people and free the world from the threat of weapons of mass destruction wielded by a sadistic madman. Operation Iraqi Freedom saw swift successes, but some 140 Americans, including nine New Yorkers, made the supreme sacrifice. As we have done since 1866, on Monday we will honor the memory of all those who have laid down their lives to ensure the peace and freedom of others, especially these latest additions to their numbers.
