Now that we've all gone European and metric and all that baloney, is it illegal for my local fishing tackle shop to sell maggots by the pint?

    Question #34522. Asked by curly.

depends when all that 'balones' was introduced curly. there is usually quite a significant 'cangeover period during which both measurements are displayed. at some point, the use of metric measurement will be compulsory. im sure you will find most mercahnts will provide both imperieal and metric measurements for a long time yet.

as a matter of interest we underwent this 'baloney' more than 30 years ago. it was difficult at first, even though i was about 13 or so. people my dads age still struggle with it (except for the currency changes that were definitely for the better) kids will learn the new way from word go and the transition will probably take a generation - but it is well worth it in the long run.....good luck :)

If the link doesn't work - google for the words ( metrication maggots pint ) but select the cached page - the source has now been deleted.

No it's not illegal to sell anything by imperial measures (providing the metric equivalent price is advertised). Legality of a sale in english law requires the buyer to offer a price and the seller to accept that price it doesn't matter what the goods are, the advertised price of the goods is only an invitation to buy not a fixed price, you can negotiate (Not much chance of success but legally you can offer the seller less than they are asking they don't have to accept your ofer but they can if they want to).

A specific region of a European country with one border prides itself on a certain 'fictional' dish on all their menus in the local restaurants. This dish tells of a fable about 'co-operation' and has connotations akin to the famous rhetorical question that refers to optimists and pessimists. What is it, what is the fable, where does it come from and what would you get if you ordered it?
