How many varieties of twins are there?

    Question #35091. Asked by dk.

    Justin

Two or three, depending on what you think.

The two that are for sure are identical (monozygotic) and fraternal (dizygotic). The third, not yet accepted by scientists as an 'official' twin type, is polar-body twinning.

Information about the types of twins can be found here: http://www.twinstuff.com/twinfopg.htm

Mirror twins. Saw on TV recently, twins who were identical, but when, at an advanced age, one got say a particularly long eyebrow hair, the other twin got it on the other side!
