Why do people put horseshoes over their doors for goodluck?

    Question #35165. Asked by tim.

    l3i7l

One tradition says that a horseshoe hung over the door, with the opening up, will catch and hold good luck for the occupants. Another says that if the shoe is hung with the opening down, good luck will pour out over those who pass through the doorway. Then there is the story about how a horseshoe will keep the Devil away. You can read that story at http://www.americanblacksmith.com/blacksmithstable/good_luck_horseshoe.htm
