Bangor Cathedral

Cathedral Church of St Deiniol. The oldest cathedral in Britain was founded in 525 by St Deiniol who became bishop in 546. Nothing remains of that early structure. The 12th century Norman church was destroyed by Edward I during his conquest of Wales. Bishop Anian began rebuilding in 1291, but little remains of his work, for it was burned during Owain Glendower's rebellion in 1404. The nave and tower are early Tudor. There are tombs of 13th century Welsh princes in the south transept.
