Brewers 20th Century Phrase and Fable gives this as 1980's slang named after a trade named milk drink but probably more closely related to the fact that the word sounds like and is more socially accepted than .... (not a word for a family site referring to male sexual parts)

That reminds me of a story about a man who took his son to watch the London American Football team a few years ago. He said he was absolutely disgusted by the chanting of the crowd, until his son informed him that, following the blast of the air-horn, the crowd were actually shouting "Monarchs!"
