    Because it blooms on March 1st, the feast day of the patron saint of Wales, St. David.

    This is very tongue in cheek Mochyn(but read into it what you will!) - Is it because it flowers for a couple of weeks each year and for the rest of the year is forgotten by the rest of the UK!
    (Agree the daffodil - St.David CONNECTION! elizabethmc.)
