Definition of Skipper:- 1) the naval officer in command of a military ship 2) an officer who is licensed to command a merchant ship 3) a student who fails to attend classes 4) work as the skipper on a vessel Synonyms: captain, master, sea captain It would seem from the above that 'skipper' is mostly used in reference to ships/boats whereas 'captain' covers a multitude of disciplines.
