Yes Jecca, your quote is correct...Kiwi you quote the start of John's Gospel, which is the fourth book in the New Testament.

Last year I came across a so-called 'bible' written in "street" language (whatever that may actually be), and the opening line of what was supposed to be the book of Genesis went something like "Right. First of all, there was nothing, and then ZAP! Stuff everywhere". Doesn't really work, does it?

There was also a version of The Bible written in cockney rhyming slang (eg "So Jesus put his hands on the geezer's mince pies and the bloke said `Blimey, Guv, I can see your boat race clear as day'").
The "Rhyming slang" version was written by a teacher or religios education, with the aim of making The Bible and religion generally, more accessible.
