There are several that agree but without concrete evidence, one of which is http://www.puzzlegrid.com/facts.cgi?groups=Places&startvalue=0
There is always a possibility that these numerous fun fact/trivia sites come up with data that has no real factual claim.

Could have been in Babylonia according to this site. I think there are problems with the very ancient libraries in knowing to what extent there was any real public access allowed.

In which city the worlds first public library was opened?

I'm looking for the name of a TV mini series movie/show. We had rented them from the video store. It's about a boy who is traveling to different worlds looking for pieces of a machine to get him back home (I think.) He is gathering something along his way. He travels to different worlds with a "professor" and maybe another person. Along the way he visits 5-8 different worlds (each was a different movie.) They were all entitled "Somebody and the Land of ???" One world had to do with giant eggs, one world a town of toys, and the end was a land something like a fantasy "Camelot." My children watched these movies anywhere from 1988 - 1993. I'm hoping someone can help me end my frazzled search.

What was the first public library to use a computerized catalog?
