    Why are the Pittsburgh Pirates often called the Bucs, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are never called the Pirates?

    So as not to confuse them with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bucs is different from Buccaneers. You would have to call them Pyres and that doesn't sound right.
