    Who decides who will be knighted, and must you be a British citizen, and could you be a woman?

    		The Queen does I believe, yes you have to be British and I believe when a woman is made a Dame (eg. Judi Dench, Maggie Smith), that is the same as being knighted.

    		Officially, the Queen does, but in practice the list of people is drawn up by the government, and then approved by the monarch.

    		On the whole you have to be a british or commonwealth citizen though you can be honorary knight like Bob Geldorf who is irish. Women become dames.

    		Bob Hope was also an honorary knight, as is former mayor of New York Rudolph Giuliani.
