Ah, a nice easy question. In a word, Carl Linnaeus. Spellings may vary. I have not done much indepth research on this. If you want to know more, I have given you a groundwork to start on.

You're right, Greg. His name is spel either as Carl or Carolu Linnaeus.

Yes, but isn't Linnaeus the Latinised form of his name Carl Linne (acute on the e) which always sounds a bit French for a Swede? Was he part French?
