Could any astronomers out there confirm or deny what I've read, that on August 27th Mars will be unusually close to the earth?

Mars is "unusually" close during August 2003.
It is closer to the Earth than it has been at any time for over 60,000 years.
It will be at "opposition" (the very closest) on 28th August
