Is it true that Galapagos tortoises spit salt water out of their mouths? This was first observed by Charles Darwin. Is it a credible observation?

    Question #37616. Asked by greg9570. (Aug 17 03 11:14 PM)

Not the tortoises greg, but the marine iguanas on the galapagos that do the spitting.

"On Isabella, we are greeted by so many marine iguanas that they seem to form a lava flow. You actually have to watch carefully to not step on any. They are wonderful creatures to see; they look like miniature dragons and they spit salt water".

they don't SPIT (the iguanas) salt water... they blow it off their noses. That's why they have their head white and not their feet white.
The tortoises live in the mainland and so drink fresh water and have no need to drink salt water.
