Are government officials such as senators prohibited from entering Mensa? If so, why? What about NASA scientists?

Maybe there's such a restriction in the US, though it would be hard to understand why, Greg. Its just a social club for people who have passed an IQ test.
There's no reason why Members of Parliament or other officials of central or local government in the UK can't join Mensa (save for the obvious reason that most of them wouldn't qualify).

The following is a biography of Senator Vincent J. Fumo of Philadelphia, which states that he is a member of Mensa, so it would appear that senators are not prohibited.

According to Mensa International, the governing body for Mensa, there is no restriction. It would make no sense at all for those people NOT to ba allowed membership, and I'm also having a hard time figuring out why you would choose those two particular groups to include in your question.

Senator Fumo is a state senator not a national senator, if that makes any difference...
