    He also founded the MONSTER RAVING LOONEY GREEN TOOTH Party and actually stood for election in my home district of ISLWYN in 1995 where he got half as many votes as the Conservative candidate.What is fuunier is that some of his policies actually came in being

    Something in the back of my memory makes me think that all this started with Reg Calvert as a publicity stunt (it would be a typical Reg Calvert thing). Reg Calvert owned one of the pirate radio forts in the Thames Estuary. He was killed in the feud, had his stomach blown out with a shot gun. It was after his death that BBC Radio One was started, perhaps even partly because of it.

    I have found the passage in the book and yes, it was Reg Calvert who put him up to standing against Angus Maude at Stratford-upon-Avon, the constituency which had been held by John Profumo. The book is Starmakers and Svengalis by Johnny Rogan. Some of the original issues have actually come true, the lowering of voting age from 21 to 18 and the abolition of the 11 plus.
