    Are there, or have there ever been, any towns or cities that occupy or have occupied both sides of the US - Canada border?

    Yep...though I can't remember the name. It is either in Vermont or Maine, and has been chronicled on tv news programs, since the 9/11 immigration/terrorist thing has been so prominent. Apparently when someone in Canada (or the US) wishes to visit a neighbor across the street, they are legally required to go through customs first.
