The Czech write Karel Capek in his play "R.U.R."
Capek should have an upside-down hook over the C, but I can't find the ANSI code for that character.

It comes from "robota", the Czech word for slave. It first appears in 1920 in Karel Capek's "R.U.R." or "Rossum's Universal Robots".
