Who was the first European born in the New World?

Question #38203. Asked by Jug Head.

I suppose the answer you are looking for is Oceanus Hopkins (Born on the Mayflower and the first of the Pilgrim Fathers babies) however there are theories that the Vikings visited a long time before that and there is also the theory that migrants from Europe came via the North West land mass to colonise the Americas in the first place.

That would probably be Virginia Dare...though if you're born in the New World, wouldn't that make you a New Worlder and not a European?
