The king of gods, Apollo, declared that Heracles be enslaved as punishment and purification for murdering Iphitus and desecrating Apollo's shrine. His servitude was to Queen Omphale of Lydia.
Omphale was impressed with the strong, handsome man, and one can hardly call his duties to her "arduous"

That's it! He had to put on a frock and work at a loom. i can think of several people I know who'd relish that. But apparently he didn't.
