Food Facts TYPES OF HIGH PROTEIN FOODS
I am eliminated some items.
Beans - There are many varieties of beans. They are usually divided into two groups: those with edible pods and those which only the seeds are eaten. Green beans have long, firm, straight pods. They are crisp to snap and have a good green colour.

Legumes
Seafood
Tofu (firm)

High Protein Foods
One of the questions I'm asked most often is how to get enough protein without guzzling protein shakes. If you are trying to get 80-120 grams of protein per day, I would suggest choosing high protein foods in lieu of other "filler foods" -- i.e. have peanut butter on your toast rather than margarine, yogurt rather than jello, scrambled eggs rather than pancakes, etc. This is not a diet; it is simply a list of high protein foods to help you get what your doctor, midwife, or conscience says you need.

ASK THE DIETITIAN:
Hi, I was wondering if you could please e-mail a list of high protein foods. I seem to eat mostly carbohydrates and would like to increase my protein intake.
The amount of protein normal adults need every day is 2-3 servings of approximately 3 ounces (50 - 100 grams or size of a deck of cards). These high protein foods would come from the Meat and Alternatives section of Canada's Food Guide (i.e. meat - ham, turkey, chicken, eggs, beef, lamb etc, or alternatives - legumes, baked beans in tomato sauce, chick peas, lentils, tofu).
If you have any nutrition related questions, feel free to e-mail nhealth@mhr.ab.ca.
