Later, a wounded Lancelot made his way back to Elaine. There Elaine nursed the knight back to health in the hope that he would return her love. Once fully recovered he rejected Elaine, claiming that he could never marry a woman, when in actuality it was because Lancelot's love belonged to someone else. There are multiple endings to the life of Sir Lancelot. Some accounts have him escaping to France where he and his followers became the leaders of France. When he returned to England to avenge his past, he finds Guinevere has become a nun.
