I was reading about Letterman and Leno and read that Letterman was always on top of the ratings until the summer of 1995 when Hugh Grant cried on Leno's show, and then Leno was always, on top? Can anyone explain what happened on that show?

    Question #38801. Asked by lydian.

There are plenty of references to Hugh Grant appearing abashed on the Jay Leno show, and to this being the show that turned the tide against Letterman. Leno apparently kicked off the interview with "What the hell were you thinking?" and Grant admitted that he "had done a bad thing."

Contrite and shamefaced though he was as he was grilled about the entire incident, I could not find any reference to him having cried.
