When you get foreign bodies in your eye such as eyelashes and dirt, you are told to roll your eye around with the eyelid pulled down over the bottom lid. All the eroneous items then obviously go behind the eyeball. What happens to them after that?

Your assumption "All the eroneous items then obviously go behind the eye ball" is incorrect.
The inner lining of the eyelid ,the conjunctiva, prevents this from happening.
It even prevents tears from flowing back around the eyeball.

Presumably this procedure activates the tear glands which washes the items towards the corner of the eye (or canthus) and then out.
