No it is Antarctica where it has not rained for millions of years.

The Atacama desert is the answer I'm looking for,
although kristian may have a point. The key word
is "driest". Can the Antarctic be described as
"dry", taking into account its icy environment?
Anyone got any thoughts?

Antarctica is BOTH the DRIEST and WETTEST place on the planet.
It is also the COLDEST and WINDIEST !
The driest place is not covered with snow or ice and whilst it may not have rained in the Atacama desert for a few hundred years, it has not rained for millions of years in the "DRY VALLEY" region of Antarctica where there is no snow or ice, giving the area a rocky, lunar landscape.

This one cropped up in the TV programme "QI" just a few weeks ago. Dark Bark's answer perfectly reflects that which was given on the show.
Host Stephen Fry described the Atacama and Sahara deserts as "positively lush" by comparison.
