At which summer Olympic games did Great Britain win, in total, 98 more medals than the United States? I'm sure there is a trick to this like 11 medals for the football team.

In the 1908 Games in London, the British team won 142 medals (56-51-35) to America's 47 (23-12-12), a difference of 95.

I have not yet found a difference of 98. Aside from London in 1908, it appears that the highest number of medals won by Great Britain is 39 (15-12-12) in Antwerp in 1920.
In 1980, even allowing for the additional Golds which could be attrbuted to team sports (i.e. four Golds for winning the 4x100m relay), the total only comes to 41 for Great Britain.
