As it's getting close to 'Guy Fawkes' night, I thought I'd ask if anyone remembers a firework called a Jumping Jack. As a small child, my mother told me that they were banned many years ago for being too dangerous. What exactly were Jumping Jacks, and why were they so dangerous as to be banned?

Question #40345. Asked by Arthur Brain. (Oct 24 03 2:43 PM)

Jumping jacks were a series of bangers (that's firecrackers to our American friends) joined together in loop shapes. Small boys took great delight in lighting them and throwing them around. As each charge exploded in turn the wretched thing would leap about in a wholly unpredictable and fearsome manner. They were banned because they caused some horrible injuries because of their unpredictable movement. Or so I've been told.
