How about Ted & Joanna Kramer in 1979?

You folks are really good. This of course does not surprise me. But I can still think of at least two more couples
|
Senior Moments
|
Michael Douglas for Wall Street and Catherine Zeta Jones for Chicago

Bravo, Senior Moments! I am so pathetically out of date, I hadn't even thought of the last two. The two couples I'm thinking of go back further. Anybody got others I don't even know? Probably.

Jennifer Jones won an oscar for Best Leading Actress in "The Song of Bernadette" and was married to David O. Selznick, who won oscars for Best Picture for "Rebecca" and "Gone with the Wind."
(You didn't specify acting oscars, correct?)

Loretta Young won Best Actress for "The Farmer's Daughter" and was married to Jean Louis, who won Best Costume Design, Black and White, for "The Solid Gold Cadillac".

I did know that, griffin. Now, how about Norma Shearer, Best Actress for The Divorcee, who was married to Irving Thalberg, who shared Best Picture for Mutiny on the Bounty with Albert Lewin.

And Charles MacArthur for Best Writing, Original Story was married to Helen Hayes, who won two best actress, one supporting and one leading, and almost 40 years apart.

And Donna Reed, Best Supporting Actress of 1953 for "From Here to Eternity" was married to William Tuttle, who won an honorary Oscar for "his outstanding make-up achievement for 7 Faces of Dr. Lao."

sorry Lothruin, I mean TWO pairs I didn't know. I didn't even know Miss Young was married to Jean Louis. (Did you Jean Louis designed Eva Gabor's clothes in "Green Acres"? I've just learned that.)

Michael Todd, Best Picture for Around the World in 80 Days was married to Liz Taylor, multiple Oscar winner, who was also married (twice) to Richard Burton, but OOHhh, so close. He was nominated for 7, count them, 7, Oscars, and came away with none.

And I'm done after this one, though I'm sure I could find more, but of course Vincente Minnelli, Best Director on Gigi, was married to Judy Garland, one of only a few Junior Oscar winners.

Great work, Lothruin! You've been amazing. but let me give you a little hint to at least one pair you haven't caught: think Carole Lombard remake. And if you are gone for now, Thanks so much for making this so fun. This is the first question I've posted, it certainly won't be the last.

WOW! I am so glad you're having so much fun with this. Brooks and Bancroft were, of course, the ones at which I was hinting. But I can still think of one pair you've missed. I guess if you want to be able to sleep tonight you'll just have to get them (evil grin).

Well, that is pretty evil. I had to go take a break and play with my daughter. Give me another hint, would ya? Like, a decade or something. :-)
|
griffinj
|
I'm not sure they're in the same decade, and this seems a more obvious clue than somone with your skills would need, but : R G K. Hugs to your daughter, too.
|

|
Well, I don't think this fits your clue, but how have I missed Angenlina Jolie (Best Supporting Actress for "Girl Interrupted") and Billy Bob Thornton (Best Writing for "Slingblade").
Leave it to me to totally miss the obvious ones. I might have to give up.

I would be shocked if you did. I didn't even know the last two wermarried either. Another hint: Thiers was one of the most successful and long-lasting of Hollywood marriages.

Holly Hunter (Best Actress in "The Piano") is married to Janusz Kaminski, who has one two Oscars for Best Cinematography...?

Ok, seriously, I feel I'm about to have a Homer Simpson moment. "D'oh!" But I give.

Lothruin, This goes beyond embarassing! I am mortified with humiliation! My source book in front of me does NOT agree with the Acadamy Awards database! This is terrible, and I've been having so much fun :< . Needless to say, this will be a lession to me to ALWAYS get it from two sources!
But I've always been taught to live up to one's misteaks. so here goes..Garson Kanin was only nominated but appearently never won! Of course this only makes your exhaustive research look even better(rightly), by contrast. I will take that little lable after my name when I sign in "trivia novice" a little more to heart. I still can't thank you enough for all the fun you've given me tonight. It's the public embarrasments that teach us. So I sign off a chastened but wiser trivia player. Thanks again.
