    Joseph Benedict (Ben) Chifley was Aussie PM from 1945 to 1949. His Government is noted for achieving full employment, the welfare state, the Snowy Mountain HEP scheme, founding the Trans-Australia Airline and the Australian State University.
    He is also famous for his "light on the hill" speech, to which end, the Chifley Research Centre was founded.

    And here's a link. Not to mention he created ASIO. He is perhaps most renowned for being the last Labor PM for a long time (prior to Menzies' huge stint).

    Correction. During his Prime Ministership, Bob Hawke occupied the position of Treasurer for one day 3-4th June, 1991.

    He was one of five Treasurers that year - Paul Keating, John Kerin, Ralph Willis and John Dawkins being the other four.
