Once again, YAY!!
James Hutton (1726-97) a pioneer in the study of
how the Earth was formed was the first to propose that processes responsible for the formation of mountains, rivers and so on were the result of on-going occurrences. Catastrophists held to the view that geological features were the outcome of occasional cataclysmic earthquakes, volcanic activity and the like. Neptunists believed that our planet was once covered by water.
