What is 'Sonic' and why would people want to know everything about it?

His blue pigmentation was explained in an issue of gaming magazine Gamepro as being the result of getting caught in an explosion involving cobalt, but this is probably not canonical. Sonic also had an enemy called Dr Robotnik and a mutated friend called Tails (a fox with two tails). Anything people can get fanatical about requires a lot of specialised knowledge in order to feel like part of the fanbase. In addition to this, these platform games can get quite addictive and you can often see gamers unnecessarily pulling their joypads violently left and right as they get caught up in the action of the on-screen characters. When obsession with collecting rings, crystals, etc. spills into thoughts outside the game then I presume gamers start to want to know everything about the game for clues to how to most quickly complete it.
