During regular season American League (not interleague) games, when are pitchers required to bat for themselves?

    Question #41149. Asked by RaeRae55.

Pitchers never have to bat, they can be pinch-hit for. However, if the designated hitter (DH) is taken out of the game for any reason, the pitcher is now the batter in the spot the DH was removed from.
