    During which festival is it customary to pay off debts, buy new clothes and clean the house?

    		The Chinese Spring festival also celebrates the start of the Chinese New Year. The date for New Year's Day is in late January or early February and is decided according to the phases of the moon. The festival lasts until the fifteenth day of the new lunar month when a 'Lantern Festival' is held.
    Chinese communities throughout the world celebrate this time of the year - many towns and cities throughout Europe hold Chinese New Year celebrations.
    Before the start of the New Year it is custom to try to settle matters from the old year - to end quarrels, to pay off debts, clean houses and buy new clothes. Flowers are used to decorate homes as a symbol of life, growth and prosperity. Sometimes incense is burned in homes and temples to honour the ancestors. http://www.epsaweb.org/chinese_new_year.htm
