Why are diamonds used to make needles on record players?

Question #41348. Asked by JanetJean. (Nov 20 03 2:46 PM)

I work a lot with needles; tapestry, tatting, sewing, etc. These needles lose their luster with prolonged use and become hard to use, especially the tatting needles. My question is, without replacing them, how can I make them look like they are new so there is less friction?
