    Question #41356. Linus_337 asks:

What was the highest UK chart position reached by Eddy Grant's 'Electric Avenue' and what was number one at the time?

    ajdale

It reached number 2 in January 1985. The chart-topper at the time was Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas"

The remix of "Electric Avenue" made number 5 in June 2001.

According to the www.everyhit.com link posted above by ajdale, "Electric Avenue" reached No. 2 in Jan 83 (not 85).

The No. 1 hits in the UK during the month of Jan 83 were:
08-Jan-83 Renee & Renato "Save Your Love"
15-Jan-03 Phil Collins "You Can't Hurry Love"
22-Jan-03 Phil Collins "You Can't Hurry Love"
29-Jan-03 Men At Work "Down Under"

The only page I can find which states the actual week "Electric Aveneue" reached No. 2 is a google cache of a page which no longer exists: http://www.google.com.au/search?q=cache:EEQVr8qGNWEJ:www.chartwatch.co.uk/TopTen/songs/songndxE.htm+uk+1983+%22phil+collins%22+%22electric+avenue%22&hl=en&ie=UTF-8">www.chartwatch.co.uk, which gives the date as 22nd January 1983 - the No. 1 hit that week was "You Can't Hurry Love" by Phil Collins.
