January 4, 1920 the New York Yankees buy Babe Ruth from the Boston Red Sox. Their attendance jumps in the season (I don't have a number) beyond the New York Giants, so the Giants kick them out of the Polo Grounds which the two teams share. This causes the Yankees to build Yankee Stadium in the Bronx which opens April 18, 1923...

Excellent, Hamlet. In 1920, the NY Yankees saw their attendance more than double as a result of Ruth's signing. This certainly caused the Giants to bristle, as just weeks into the season they announced that they would not renew the Yankees lease at the Polo Grounds. In 1923 the Yankees would beat the Giants for the first of their 26 World Championships.
