Is this usually known in the English-speaking world as the Mexican hairless dog rather than that Aztec mouthful you've typed there. How do you pronounce "Xoloitzcuintli" anyway?

Cho-lo-etz-queent-lee is the pronunciation, and to clarify, it IS what is known as the Mexican Hairless, although the breed standard includes both hairless and coated varieties. It hasn't yet been recognized by the American Kennel Club. The origin of the word is probably Aztec, but may in fact be Toltec or another of the many ancient civilizations of middle and south America. The breed is known to predate Aztec civilization.
