What causes rainbows to appear inverted in the south?

Rainbows are complete circles but you only see the part against the sky. I have seen complete rainbows, known as 'glories' sometimes when I have been on a plane and look out of a window when the plane passes between cumulus clouds and the sun is behind my line of sight

If the sun is in the north (for example 12 noon in New Zealand), the rainbow will appear in the South. If the rain is in the right place, you might get a double bow. The secondary outer bow will be inverted, that is, the colours will be in the opposite order to the inner primary bow.
