As a New England Patriots fan, it is my pleasure to inform you that the Dolphins are out of the race for the AFC East title. At 8-5 even if they win their last three games and the 11-2 Pats lose all three of their games, the Pats have them on the tiebreaker since they beat the Dolphins twice during the season. There are two wild card spots open and right now the Titans would get one of them, with the Dolphins and Broncos tied for the second spot. Since the Dolphins and Broncos haven't played each other, the following tiebreakers would apply:
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
Strength of victory.
Strength of schedule.
Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best net points in conference games.
Best net points in all games.
Best net touchdowns in all games.
Coin toss.
At this point, the Broncos have a 7-3 conference record, while the Dolphins record against AFC teams is only 5-5, so the Broncos would be playoff bound if the season ended today. But regardless of who qualifies for the wild card, New England will be celebrating its second Super Bowl title in three years come January. Go Pats!
