Theophilus means "one who loves God".
The Gospel according to Luke, and the Acts of the Apostles, were addressed to Theophilus.
Theophilus may have been Luke's patron, who helped to finance the book's writing.
More likely, he was a Roman acquaintance of Luke's, with a strong interest in the Christian faith.

Theophilus was one of Mozart's names before being changed to Amadeo in Italy, then to the Latin form Amadeus. You would expect him to have been Gottlieb, which is the normal German form of the name. There doesn't seem to be an English form of the name. (The French use Theophile from the Greek.)

Another Theophilus was a Byzantine emperor from 829 to 842. Saint Theophilus of Alexandria was a Christian patriarch in Alexandria in the fifth century.
