What are Mondegreens, and who coined the term?

    Question #42554. Asked by elizabethmc.

    Gnomon

Mondegreens are words of songs that you always hear the wrong way. I don't know who coined the term, but it comes from mishearing "laid them on the green" as "Lady Mondegreen".
