I think of juniper as a bush and was unaware that yew trees bore cones but there's a definite yay in there, griff. Scots Pine was the answer I intended!

A neighbor just told me he was paneling his living room with this deciduous wood, but I thought the name he called it referred to a conifer that grows only in eastern North America. Then I realized the soothing word I was hearing is an adjective that describes two very different trees. The one he plans to use is a confusingly close relative of a tree that joined the genome club a couple of years ago. What is he paneling his living room with, and what conifer was I thinking of?
