The UK has an earthquake on average, every four days - but thankfully, they are mostly very faint and are not felt by anyone.
One of the main areas in the UK for earthquakes is the northwest of Wales. In 1984, Lleyn suffered an earthquake that measured 5.4 on the Richter Scale. This quake is in fact the biggest ever-recorded earthquake on land in the UK. (The biggest recorded earthquake at sea was in 1931, 120km off Great Yarmouth which measured 6.1 on the Richter Scale).
But the good news is that quakes in the UK that measure above 5 on the Richter Scale are very rare (approximately once every ten years) and there is no reason to think that another 5+ earthquake will happen soon. Below is a map to reflect the seismicity of the UK, for the period 1980 - March 2003. http://www.visitandlearn.co.uk/deployment02-03/ukearthquakes1.asp
