Additionally, the disease that humans get from consuming meat that is infected with BSE is called variant Crutzfeld-Jacobs disease (or vCJD). When newspapers report that a human died from "mad cow disease" they are referring to vCJD (even though technically "mad cow disease" is BSE and not vCJD). Regardless, I don't want either of those diseases. That's why I'm going to start eating Chicken McNuggets instead of Big Macs when I go to Mickey D's now that mad cow has been confirmed in the US.
