If you feel your neck very carefully, you will find little bumps under your skin that can move a little bit and feel strange. What are they?

They will be your lymph nodes. The thyroid and parathyroid glands are in the neck, but in the throat and not near the surface.
They're always there but swell up to obvious lumps with an infection. As long as the bumps are in the normal place (where Frankenstein's monster's bolts are) plus the ones that swell up with mumps under the chin you have nothing wrong. If they're anywhere else, and not part of a pair either side, I'd get them looked at.
