In the United States, both are methods of assigning delegates to political party conventions to select a presidential nominee for that political party. A primary is an election, in which members of a political party go to the polls and vote for the candidate they want to receive the nomination. Delegates are awarded based on the vote in the primary. A caucus is a series of meetings in which people go to voice their support for particular candidates. Delegates are awarded based on the support that the candidate receives at these meetings.
