"Lady Bird" Johnson was born Claudia Alta Taylor. She and LBJ married in 1932. She assumed the name "Lady Bird", so that she and her husband could share the same initials. I seem to recall there was a substantial reason for this, but can't recall what it was.

One of President Johnson's close friends was David Harold Byrd, who created the Civil Air Patrol just before World War II and later formed Ling-Tempco-Vought (LTV Corporation).

So the Byrd name was often seen with Johnson's.

No relation to Lady Bird Johnson. She had this name as a very young girl.
