A number of websites say that the highest temperature ever recorded in Queensland (or anywhere in Australasia) was 128°F (53.3°C) at Cloncurry on January 16, 1889.

The Brisbane Courier-Mail reported yesterday that Cloncurry had been stripped of its record "held" for 115 years, because that 1889, 53.1C (128.5F) had been taken using non-standardised equipment and doubts existed about its accuracy. The record now belongs to Birdsville, which recorded 49.5C on December 24, 1972.
