It has recently been reported that an Australian man is the rightful ruler of the UK. Who is this man and why is he stated to be the lawful ruler of the UK?

His name is Michael Hastings. The claim is based on the belief that Edward IV of England was the illegitimate son of a French archer and that the crown of England (on the death of Henry VI) should therefore have gone to Edward’s brother (the Duke of Clarence) and his brother’s heirs through the ages. By this route it would currently be enjoyed by Mr Hastings. There was a TV programme on the subject in the UK a few days ago, presented by the ubiquitous Tony Robinson. So far as I can remember, Mr Hastings doesn’t want to leave NSW, and he voted for a republic in the recent Australian referendum. Jan 18 04, 5:06 PM

A programme was shown on tv recently which worked on the theory that Edward IV was actually the son of a Frenchman and not the heir to the British throne.
